Since John Huddleston discovered diamonds here in 1906, this land has drawn treasure seekers. As the world’s only public diamond mine, it invites visitors to dig, hunt, and keep gems. Since becoming a state park in 1972, more than 30,000 diamonds have been found by visitors.

  • Visit the Diamond Discovery Center – Begin at this engaging center with exhibits, a mining video, and live demonstrations. Rent tools, ask questions, and prepare for diamond hunting.
  • Hunt for Gems – Search the 37.5-acre volcanic field for diamonds, amethyst, garnet, and jasper. Any gemstone or mineral you uncover is yours to keep.
  • See the Diamond Hunters’ Hall of Fame – View photographs of successful prospectors who unearthed precious stones. Celebrate the everyday visitors who found sparkling treasures.
  • Get Your Gem Certified – If you discover a diamond, bring it to the Diamond Discovery Center for official certification by staff who will verify and document your find.
  • Hike the Prospector Trail – Walk this 1.2-mile loop highlighting volcanic features that created the diamond field. The trail offers a scenic glimpse into the park’s unusual geology.
