Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site preserves the story of the 1957 desegregation crisis and the courage of the Little Rock Nine. The site honors the struggle for civil rights and offers visitors a chance to reflect on a pivotal moment in American history. 

MUST-DO CHECKLIST

  • View Exhibits in the Visitor Center – Interviews, news footage, and recordings chronicle the story of the nine African-American students who integrated Little Rock Central High School.
  • Take a Ranger-Led Walking Tour – Discover the school’s history and its crucial role in the Civil Rights Movement. Advance reservations are required. 
  • Walk the Grounds – Visit the Elizabeth Eckford Bus Bench, Commemorative Garden, and Magnolia Mobil Gas Station to further reflect on the experiences of the Little Rock Nine. 
  • Earn a Junior Ranger Badge – Pick up a free activity booklet from park staff to complete during your visit to earn an official Junior Ranger badge. Adults can participate as well! 
  • Visit the Testament Statues – Make a side trip to the Arkansas State Capitol grounds to see bronze statues honoring each member of the Little Rock Nine.
