Pikes Peak, one of Colorado’s most famous mountains, soars to 14,115 feet and wows with stunning views of the Rockies. Visitors can reach the summit by the historic cog railway, hiking, biking, or driving, taking in alpine forests, tumbling waterfalls, and native wildlife along the way. 

MUST-DO CHECKLIST

  • Ride to the Summit – Travel nine miles aboard the historic cog railway, reaching the summit in roughly 70 minutes, with 40 minutes to explore at the top. 
  • Motor Along the Pikes Peak Highway – Drive or take a shuttle 19 miles to the summit. Timed-entry permits are required during summer months. An audio driving tour is available. 
  • Explore the Summit Visitor Center – Enjoy 360-degree views and learn about the mountain’s history, geography, and climate through interpretive exhibits. 
  • Eat a World-Famous Donut – Pikes Peak serves the only donuts in the world made above 14,000 feet, crafted with a special altitude-based recipe by a donut-making robot. 
  • Spot Wildlife – Pikes Peak is full of wildlife, including elk, deer, and yellow-bellied marmot. Pikes Peak is also home to one of Colorado’s largest bighorn sheep herds.
